MIGRAÇÃO FEMININA EM CONTEXTOS PÓS-COLONIAIS GLOBALIZADOS:

Teias entrelaçadas entre afetos e agência na rota Brasil-Suriname-Holanda

[Feminine migration in globalized post-colonial contexts: tangled webs between affection and agency on the Brazil-Netherlands route]

PhD by Ana Cláudia Cardoso de Freitas

On the 23th of April, 2020, an international jury of researchers from diverse universities evaluated the PhD of Ana Cláudia Freitas.

This study addresses Brazilian women migration in the route Brazil-Suriname-The Netherlands. Once it is not possible to answer all the issues that disturb me within this subject, my thesis aims to contribute to fill some gaps that I identify in this field of research, such as: the need of studies on migration which encompass gender issues; the need of intersectional studies which take into account, in their analytical inferences, socioeconomic and sexual citizenship issues, among others; the need of objective and politically engaged studies, in which women are not framed as only victims and in which agency and resistance possibilities are at stake (Agustin, 2001). With this research project I studied the connection link between the phenomenon of migration and the trafficking of Brazilian women for purposes of sexual exploitation from the perspective of globalization. Specifically, this study analyzes the immigration of women from the North of Brazil to the Netherlands who eventually fell into Human Trafficking networks.

Congratulations, Ana Cláudia!
