"Feminine sexualities in discourse"

The PhD of Cecília Vieira Costa presents some findings which need some reflection for further investigation and intervention:

"The sexual experience itself and the lack of pleasure were bad but that was a victimization these young women could assume under the traditional feminine positioning. Being victim of forced intercourse/sexual abuse is definitely a totally undesired subject positioning. This is an example of how hard it is for women to assume themselves to be positioned as victims, and their boyfriends as sexual aggressors. It is preferable to assume sexual coercion by boyfriends as ‘normal’ and be empathic with their boyfriend’s wishes/pressure then to assume themselves as victims of sexual abuse. The perverse here is that in order to avoid being positioned as victims the young women use the pseudo-feminist discourse that, I have chosen, I decide to do it, I’m in charge of my life and destiny, thereby encouraging the invisibility of sexual coercion."
